Sue Burek Honored with the
Allan Anderson Ambassador Award

The Product Development and Management Association (PDMA) is delighted to announce that Sue Burek has been named the recipient of the prestigious Allan Anderson Ambassador Award.
This distinguished honor recognizes individuals who have made exceptional contributions to advancing PDMA’s mission and fostering its vibrant community of innovation leaders.

Said Board Member Bill Reid in his nomination of Sue for the award: “For the sake of time, I cannot discuss all of the areas that Sue has demonstrated her worthiness for this award, so I’d like to mention a key nomination requirement: the nominee must be shown to have contributed to the furtherment or the global expansion of the discipline of product innovation in a foundational way. Sue has selflessly demonstrated this characteristic since I have known her in one very key area, the Global Student Innovation Challenge. Sue has championed this key outreach for PDMA to allow PDMA to reach the next generation of innovators worldwide.”

Sue’s unwavering dedication to PDMA has been evident through her years of service, thought leadership, and commitment to member engagement. Her efforts have strengthened the association's global network, while her passion for innovation has inspired countless professionals in the field.

The Allan Anderson Ambassador Award is a fitting tribute to Sue’s impact, honoring her as a true advocate and leader within the PDMA community. Congratulations, Sue, on this well-deserved recognition!

- Guest contributor Jeffrey Phillips recently shared his observations and suggestions about fostering innovation culture in his viewpoint blog, An Innovation Culture or a Culture of Continuity. He discusses the elusive concept of a "culture of innovation," likening it to a unicorn—appealing but largely unachievable in established corporations. While every business has a culture, most prioritize maintaining consistent, profitable operations, which leads to a "culture of continuity" that resists change and innovation. Companies often view innovation as a temporary project rather than an ongoing effort, limiting their ability to adapt and grow.To foster genuine innovation, it must be embedded in daily operations rather than treated as a discrete activity. Larger organizations face unique challenges in balancing the need for stability with the desire for innovation, often resorting to strategies such as acquiring startups, partnering with external innovators, or isolating new initiatives from the existing culture. For meaningful change, executive leadership must commit to long-term investment in innovation, ensuring that training, support, and a willingness to accept risk are part of the corporate strategy. Although achieving a true culture of innovation is difficult, organizations can enhance their innovative capacity through focus and sustained effort. Balancing continuity and innovation is challenging but possible with the right commitment and approach. Read the full blog here, in kHUB’s Culture and Teams section.

- Products today often get released by team member heroics despite the process. Most teams are dealing with chaotic processes that few understand. And yet, every organization is unique—so your planning process should be too. Most organizations need a small number of living documents—fewer than 10—to guide market insights and product innovation. Innovate your planning process to better align with the agility of your organization using the Quartz Open Framework. In this kHUB Product Innovation Process webcast, “Innovate Your Planning Process with Quartz”, Steve Johnson of Product Growth Leaders encourages you to throw away outdated methods and define a process as nimble as your organization.
