Nominations are open for Outstanding Corporate Innovator Award

Join a prestigious list of corporations that are recipients of PDMA's Outstanding Corporate Innovator (OCI) Award. For 34 years, PDMA's exclusive OCI Award has been the premier honor for industry innovators.

The award selection process provides an excellent mechanism for identifying companies that create and capture long-term value through product and service innovation. As a global award, companies around the world are eligible. Nominate your own company or one you admire. If you nominate another company, please be sure to let them know they are being nominated and provide a contact for the company.

OCI Award Criteria and Qualifications:
  1. 5 years of sustained success launching new products or services.
  2. Significant company growth from new products or services.
  3. Well defined new product development practices and processes.
  4. Distinctive innovative characteristics and intangibles.

Companies that participate in the OCI Award program benefit from receiving expert external feedback on their innovation practices and results. Winners are recognized globally and can use this recognition to motivate and reward their organizations. Firms that meet the above criteria, regardless of size or industry, are candidates.

The deadline to submit is March 8, 2021.

Upcoming PDMA Workshops

March 11 & 18, 2021
8:30 AM – 12:00 PM (U.S. Eastern/GMT -5:00)

This workshop explores how strategy and business models intertwine to shape the nature and success of a business.  Both aspects will be illuminated from various perspectives, e.g., corporate and entrepreneurial, for-profit and not-for-profit, products and services.

Tools and methods will be introduced that allow a business to better understand and define itself and recognize its position in the market environment. This heightened understanding allows the business to make informed decisions on how to deliver the expected value to customers and stakeholders and differentiate itself from competition.

March 17 & 24, 2021
11:00 AM – 3:00 PM (U.S. Eastern/GMT -5:00)

Will your portfolio drive the growth your company needs? It is a common fallacy that a portfolio of safe reliable projects will deliver safe reliable results. Often a portfolio with risky uncertain projects is actually the safer bet to meet growth goals.

The rubber meets the road on connecting strategy to action at the portfolio. Here you really decide where and how much to invest. Here you resolve conflict among competing organizations or objectives. Here you must confront the often-ugly gap between strategic ambition and the reality of the current proposals. What to cut, what to prioritize, how to deliver?

Great portfolio results require good governance, good project management and good choices. The good choices – the “What” of portfolio management is often neglected or overlooked. Indeed, the best practices of Strategic Portfolio management are often undermined by the best practices of the other areas.

This course focuses on Strategic Portfolio Management. Take it to learn how to evaluate projects to a common standard, to juggle choices across competing areas, resolve conflict and ultimately power your company to meet its growth goals.

For some, great product messaging and positioning may seem elusive, however, this session will demonstrate that messaging and positioning is actually a science, not an art. Attendees will learn about common messaging and positioning mistakes, how to fix them, and tips for developing strong messaging and positioning to help your product stand out.

  • How to be a champion for your project and team, revitalizing their resolve.

PDMA Global Student Innovation Challenge (GSIC21) - now open to receive submissions until August 30, 2021.

The GSIC is a competition organized by the Product Development and Management Association to showcase student entrepreneurs in their quest of putting theories and concepts into practice.

Student teams that develop original concepts for a product, service, software, or a combination of the three, submit details about their business model, solution concept, and unique value proposition. Students are welcome to expand on academic work for their theses or capstone projects as the basis of their entry.

Finalist teams may be paired with industry mentors through PDMA. Finalist teams are encouraged to present their concepts, prototypes and mockups at PDMA’s Annual Competitive Edge Conference. The presentation portion provides students the opportunity to demonstrate their product development skills to an audience of industry practitioners, service providers and academics in innovation, product management and product development.

Please visit the website
PDMA Global Student Innovation Challenge for details on key dates, eligibility, rewards, and other pertinent information.

Announcing Innovate Carolina 2021
The Carolinas PDMA chapter is planning its 12th Annual Innovation Conference, a virtual event on April 22nd and April 23rd.  This year’s theme: Capturing the silver lining – delivering opportunities from disruption.

Clearly, COVID-19 has been a significant business disruption, however this conference is not focused on COVID-19, but on the idea that businesses must be more prepared to face recurring disruptions and learn to innovate during and after significant disruptions.

When we consider how many new businesses (and business models) were spawned from previous downturns (Airbnb and Uber are two examples from the last downturn), it's evident that disruptions offer an opportunity to innovate.

Access the Innovate Carolina website for more information. Registration coming soon.
