Join a prestigious list of corporations that are recipients of PDMA's Outstanding Corporate Innovator (OCI) Award. For 34 years, PDMA's exclusive OCI Award has been the premier honor for industry innovators.
The award selection process provides an excellent mechanism for identifying companies that create and capture long-term value through product and service innovation. As a global award, companies around the world are eligible. Nominate your own company or one you admire. If you nominate another company, please be sure to let them know they are being nominated and provide a contact for the company.
OCI Award Criteria and Qualifications:
- 5 years of sustained success launching new products or services.
- Significant company growth from new products or services.
- Well defined new product development practices and processes.
- Distinctive innovative characteristics and intangibles.

PDMA Webcast: Lessons Learned from Outstanding Corporate Innovators
|
|
|
|
|
When:
Thursday, February 4, 2021
12 PM CT / 1 PM ET
PDH Credit: 1
Description
Lessons learned from proven successful practitioner companies provide valuable benchmarks for organizations wanting to improve their own new product/service development performance.
In 1988 PDMA established The Outstanding Corporate Innovator Award (OCI) to recognize companies which have achieved sustained and quantifiable innovation success and to learn from the practices which have contributed to their success. These practices provide valuable benchmarks for the innovation community.
In this webcast you will learn about the analyses conducted by The OCI Committee to look at the practices which have differentiated the winners over the 33-year history of OCI. You will learn that despite diversity in industry and size the winners share a common set of practices. You will learn about the evolution of innovation practices over time and how these companies have adapted their practices to reflect changing trends and market conditions. Attendees will also gain insights on how many of the OCI Winners are ahead of others in adopting next practices.
You will also have the unique opportunity to take an ‘under the hood’ look at how companies like BD, Church & Dwight, Clorox, Corning, DSM, Gorilla Glue, Lennox, Medtronic, and UnitedHealth Group actually implement innovation best practices. You will hear how past winners sustain success after winning OCI by creating a culture supportive of innovation and a constant focus on emerging best practices.
Don’t miss the opportunity to also hear from a past winner, Lennox International, about the OCI experience and the impact on the organization of participating in the process and winning the award.

The GSIC is a competition organized by the Product Development and Management Association to showcase student entrepreneurs in their quest of putting theories and concepts into practice.
Student teams that develop original concepts for a product, service, software, or a combination of the three, submit details about their business model, solution concept, and unique value proposition. Students are welcome to expand on academic work for their theses or capstone projects as the basis of their entry.
Finalist teams may be paired with industry mentors through PDMA. Finalist teams are encouraged to present their concepts, prototypes and mockups at PDMA’s Annual Competitive Edge Conference. The presentation portion provides students the opportunity to demonstrate their product development skills to an audience of industry practitioners, service providers and academics in innovation, product management and product development.
Please visit the website PDMA Global Student Innovation Challenge for details on key dates, eligibility, rewards, and other pertinent information.

Announcing Innovate Carolina 2021 call for speakers
|
|
|
|
|
The Carolinas PDMA chapter is planning its 12th Annual Innovation Conference, a virtual event on April 22nd and April 23rd. This year’s theme: Capturing the silver lining – delivering opportunities from disruption.
Clearly, COVID-19 has been a significant business disruption, however this conference is not focused on COVID-19, but on the idea that businesses must be more prepared to face recurring disruptions and learn to innovate during and after significant disruptions. When we consider how many new businesses (and business models) were spawned from previous downturns (Airbnb and Uber are two examples from the last downturn), it's evident that disruptions offer an opportunity to innovate.
As the event will be virtual, the presentation format will be governed by the constraints of the video-sharing application. We will accept both live and recorded talks, so any speaker’s material that is selected can be pre-recorded. Due to the nature of the event, we will limit the number of pre-recorded presentations so the audience has a chance to interact with and ask questions of the speakers when possible. Send your proposal to speaker.innovatecarolina@gmail.com for consideration. Include your proposed presentation in a topic sentence and a 30-50 word description, including information on the tools, methods, strategies you propose to cover or the case study or success story you propose to present. Access our Innovate Carolina website for more information.

We are very excited to start off 2021 having seen significant membership growth, chapter proliferation, the new edition of the PDMA BoK, new workshops and continued growth in the PDMA NPD certification program. While we missed getting to network in-person at the annual conference we were pleased with the positive feedback from our virtual conference event. Now, onward… We have big plans for continued growth worldwide including chapter growth, additional (and significant) investment in our certification program and other exciting projects.
To help us achieve goals associated with the above we are very happy for the following valuable additions to the PDMA Board of Directors starting in January:
Greg Coticchia
Greg Coticchia is an award-winning entrepreneur, business leader, professor and author, with over thirty years’ experience in tech products and services. He serves as the President of Sopheon (LON: SPE), a leader in enterprise innovation management software and service.
Wayne Fisher
Wayne Fisher, Ph.D., founded Rockdale Innovation after spending 27 years as an R&D manager at Procter & Gamble. While at P&G, Wayne created a series of popular innovation workshops for all phases of new product development, training thousands of managers across P&G’s diverse business units and regions.
Luigi M. De Luca
Luigi M. De Luca is Professor of Marketing and Innovation at Cardiff University Business School, where he also serves as Associated Dean for Doctoral Studies and Director of the PhD Programme. Luigi received a PhD in Business Administration and Management from Bocconi University (Italy).

Our best to all members for a successful 2021!
