Risk-Based Product Design: Avoiding the Cost of Hidden Assumptions
2 JULY | 11:00am – 12:00pm CDT
Most product teams follow the right process—and still build the wrong thing. The issue isn’t execution; it’s untested assumptions.
In this webcast, Raelin Sawka Musuraca introduces a risk-based approach to product design that helps teams identify and test the beliefs driving their decisions before committing time and resources. Centered on Assumption Artifacts, a lightweight tool for running fast, behavior-focused experiments, the session highlights how generative AI can be used to surface hidden assumptions, reveal overlooked product risks, and rapidly create and iterate on low-effort tests. Attendees will gain a practical lens for reducing hidden risk, improving prioritization, and making more confident product decisions. |

The AI Threshold Project |

What's it really like to lead product and innovation work in the age of AI?
Early answers are coming in through the AI Threshold Project, a PDMA kHUB initiative led by PDMA member Jake McKee, and one theme keeps repeating. Leaders keep saying some version of "I feel like everyone else has AI figured out and I'm behind." As Jake puts it, the math doesn't work. We can't all be behind each other.
That's just one thread. Others are emerging around ROI and risk, and the picture gets sharper with every response. If you haven't weighed in yet, now's the time. The survey takes just a few minutes, and you can also volunteer for a one-on-one interview with Jake.
Please note: If you tried to participate last time and hit a wall, we owe you an apology. There was a tech glitch on our end that is now fixed. Please come back and give it another shot. |

From Applied AI to Practical Business Use: Why Commercialization Infrastructure Matters by Rebecca Park
New kHUB content curator Rebecca Park shared insight related to early-stage AI companies in her recent article From Applied AI to Practical Business Use: Why Commercialization Infrastructure Matters. Applied AI technologies are advancing quickly, but many early-stage AI companies still struggle to turn technical capability into practical business adoption. This article focuses on B2B applied AI companies that sell AI products or services to business customers, especially small and mid-sized businesses. In this context, “customers” refers to the organizations buying or adopting the AI product, and “implementation” refers to the work required to integrate that product into real workflows, onboard users, build trust, and measure business value.
The issue is not always whether the technology works. More often, the challenge is whether customers can understand it, trust it, implement it, and measure value from it. This is why commercialization and implementation infrastructure are essential. |

Andrea Ruttengerg and Kristyn Corrigan of AMS will also speak this October, “Customer Input is Everywhere: Rethinking VOC in an AI-Enabled World.” At PDMA’s 2023 conference, Andrea presented "Customer Insights in a Pinch: ChatGPT, Social Monitoring and Good Old Brainstorming." Coming up with a comprehensive list of customer needs is fundamental to Voice of the Customer (VOC) market research for innovation, which usually involves a lengthy process requiring dozens of full-length interviews, but what if you're in a time crunch? Join Andrea Ruttenberg, PhD, Associate Principal at Applied Marketing Science and President of the PDMA Pittsburgh Chapter, to learn methods for getting "close enough" to a comprehensive list of customer needs in a pinch and how to use these needs to develop products. You'll learn techniques for brainstorming and finding key customer discussion platforms, and use nascent tools like ChatGPT to supplement your findings.
