Innovate Carolina 2023 Recap
Sustainable Innovation: Building Resilience into your Products, your Teams, your World

On Saturday April 22, the Carolinas Chapter of PDMA presented their 14th annual Innovate Carolina conference.

Under the broad topic of Product Resilience and Sustainable Innovation, the PDMA’s Carolinas Chapter presented a virtual conference highlighting innovators of the future.

Featuring:
Keynote speaker
Michael Arena on how managers can blend virtual and face-to-face work to avoid the loss of connections and social capital that hybrid work brings. He introduced an alternative organizational design that leaders can adopt to overcome the losses and limitations of a hybrid environment.

Student Showcase: A highlight of the conference was the presentation of the winners of the 2023 local
Student Innovation Competition.
Announcing the winners of PDMA Carolina’s Student Innovation Competition…
  • Fifty-six students participated this year and 10 Faculty advisors guided their students, with representation from Clemson University, North Carolina State University and Duke University.
  • Teams were assessed on detailed responses to 3 questions: 1) Is it real? 2) Can we win? and 3) Is it worth doing?  Judges were from the PDMA Carolinas Board.
  • Graduate Category First place is Durabloom from Duke University.
    • Idea: A surgical tool to more effectively repair cerebrospinal fluid leaks in the mastoid of the skull posterior, that affects ~ 16,000 people every year. See their presentation here.

    • Mike Hyzy’s Inspire 11.  “Inspiration: Imagination is more powerful than Kowledge... But knowledge doesn't hurt. We believe nothing is normal. That’s why we not only embrace disruption, we inspire it and help our clients and community advance as a result of it. It may sound ambitious, but that’s why we exist: to make complex simple. Say goodbye to normal.”
    • And check out the other podcasts and blogs the kHUB curators recommend.
